Gus Poyet’s side have won just two of their last 13 League matches in front of their home fans but they will be hoping to improve upon that record against the west Londoners.
Sunderland’s form has improved in recent weeks and Jermain Defoe’s arrival has boosted a side that has scored just six goals in their last eight at home in the league.
On the other hand, QPR are on a run of four straight defeats and have not won on the road all season.
Chris Ramsey and Kevin Bond take the reins once again as the search for a new permanent boss continues but it remains to be seen whether the pair can inspire QPR to a first win on the road this season.
Poyet will welcomes striker Connor Wickham back to the squad for the clash.
Wickham has missed the last two games with a calf injury he picked up during the warm-up at Fulham last Tuesday, but has recovered and is fit for selection.
However, midfielders Jack Rodwell (groin) and Emanuele Giaccherini (leg) are both likely to sit out along with Lee Cattermole (knee).
QPR will be without leading scorer Charlie Austin for the trip to Sunderland.
Austin has a foot problem and is expected to be out for around a fortnight while Nedum Onuoha (hamstring), Richard Dunne (knee) and Alejandro Faurlin (knee) are also unavailable.
Sandro has recovered from a knee injury but the midfielder will regain fitness in friendlies and under-21 matches before being reintroduced to the first team.
