LVG: United fans enjoy our style

United came in for a chorus of boss in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Sunderland when they contrived to turn an attacking corner into a backpass to the Spanish goalkeeper – a move which also prompted “attack, attack” chants from the terraces.
United travel to Newcastle on Wednesday night occupying the fourth and final Champions League spot and despite urging fans to remain patient, he also has a level of sympathy for them.
“I agree with the fans that we don't have to use the goalkeeper so much,” he said. “I have seen moments when we could play with a higher tempo without interfering with the goalkeeper.
“Sometimes the players may not see another solution. But I have to support them. Also, a fan has to see that.
“Of course, to attack is more or less the English style of playing a match. But I think the supporters have also enjoyed Manchester United playing in a possession game so it is always a mix of playing both. I think we can still improve in not losing the ball unnecessarily.”
United could find themselves anywhere between third and fifth when the full-time whistles blow this evening, and despite Van Gaal’s men being on a run of two defeats in 21 matches, it is evident that this has failed to paper over some cracks with supporters.
